History in the Making
It's a big month. A REALLY big month. Four historic events in American History will take place in the remaining days of January.
Friday, Donald J. Trump will take the inauguration stage and become the 45th President of the United States of America. This is without a doubt a monumental milestone in the History of our great nation, whether in your opinion good or bad.
And just remember, as noted in the final thank you to the people of America penned by current President Barack Obama, "...America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word 'We.' 'We the People.' 'We shall overcome.'" Though Donald Trump will make History as he steps into his new role as POTUS, WE are still ONE nation... and ONE nation under God.
Following the presidential inauguration on Saturday is the Women's March on Washington. This event was created in regards to our rather dramatic, and sometimes horrific, election cycle specifically to "[confront the] question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear." Women from all over the nation will gather in Washington D.C. to peacefully send a bold message to our new government, and world, that "women's rights are human rights." Hundreds of thousands of women are expected to attend and participate in the event spearheaded by major sponsors Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Well over 350 organizations have thus far partnered with the march, including NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation, Amnesty International, Students for Choice, and CODE PINK, as well as other feminist organizations, religious groups, educational societies, and other NPO's.
One type of women's group you won't see included in this all inclusive, women's march, is pro-life organizations like Students for Life, or And Then There Were None. Thus far, all pro-life orgs, regardless of political party affiliation, have been turned down to officially register for the event. But, regardless of official registration, many pro-life/women's right's activists have made bold statements that they will be marching for the rights for ALL women, including the preborn.
Then, this Sunday January 22nd is National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This day was set aside for every year going forth by the proclamation of President Ronald Reagan in 1984. His proclamation made this bold statement: "The first of the 'unalienable rights' affirmed by our Declaration of Independence is the right to life itself, a right the Declaration states has been endowed by our Creator on all human beings-- whether young or old, weak or strong, healthy or handicapped." This day is commemorated by churches, organizations, families and individuals across America who stand affirming the sanctity of human life. Make sure you check in with your Pastor about mentioning this special day!
And lastly, next Friday, January 27th, 2017 the 44th annual March for Life will take place in Washington D.C. as well other cities across America. Their vision after the decision of Roe v. Wade in 1973 is, "A world where every human life is valued and protected" and marcher's have been standing for life every year since. The D.C. march is the largest pro-life event in the world with past attendance records spiking an estimated 650,000 people in 2013 - I could not find number listed for the past couple years, but this year's numbers are expected to rise over 700,000 attendees, not including those marching in other parts of the country.
To prelude the March for Life, Babies Go To Congress will take place January 25th-27th. Pro-life activists, abortion survivors, and others impacted by abortion will boldly occupy Capitol Hill to stand before our nations lawmakers to stake a claim for life. This event is imperative to the successful impact of the March for Life as participants share their stories and protest peacefully on multiple fronts.
So America... are you ready for the next week or so? It's going to be a BIG end to the beginning of 2017.
We hope you'll stay involved, pray without ceasing, and stand up for what you believe in!
